HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior
Lucas Michaud (South Portland, Maine) scored two goals to lead the No. 2-seeded Trinity College men's ice hockey team to a commanding 5-0, win over No. 10 Connecticut College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. The Bantams will play Saturday, March 5 in a semifinal matchup against No. 3 Williams College at 1 p.m. hosted by Colby College.
Trinity exploded from the start scoring two goals in the first 22 seconds of action on Sunday. Just 11 seconds into play, sophomore
Jax Murray (Minneapolis, Minn.) broke free up the left side and fired a shot from the circle which was stopped by Camels goaltender Sean Dynan but immediately cleaned up by Michaud for the goal. Another 11 ticks came off the clock before Murray once again took the puck up ice with a head of steam and dished right side to sophomore Gerard Marreta who sent a missile from the right circle past the goalie to give the Bantams a 2-0 lead and ignite the home crowd in Koeppel. Connecticut College then made a goaltender switch as Michael McHale replaced Dynan for the remainder of the day.
At the 7:26 mark Trinity added a third goal when first-year
Nicholas Siffringer (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) sent the puck ahead into the zone for junior
Paul Selleck (Laguna Hills, Calif.) who dashed up the left side and swiftly cut across the crease, backhanding the puck into the net. With just over a minute remaining in the first period, junior
Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) ripped a shot to split two Camel defensemen but was turned away by McHale, however, senior
Cole Poliziani (Burlington, Ontario) sliced into the zone to control the rebound and tuck away the fourth Bantam goal of the afternoon.
Following a scoreless second frame, Trinity added a fifth and final goal coming on a power play score from Michaud for his second goal of the day. Sophomore
Kyle Tomaso (Newport, R.I.) and Murray were each credited with assists, tallying Murray's third helper in the contest. Sophomore goaltender
J.P. Mella (Stamford, Conn.) registered 34 saves and picked up his seventh win in net for Trinity as McHale recorded 33 stops for the Camels.
