Trinity Women's Squash Loses Close Match To Drexel In Howe Cup Semifinals

HARTFORD, Conn. - Alina Bushma edged Trinity College sophomore, 3-2, in the last individual match to lead the Drexel University Dragons to a 5-4 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in the semifinals of the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship (Howe Cup) Tournament this afternoon on Harvard University's Murr Courts.  No. 2-seeded Trinity falls to 14-2, snapping a seven-game winning streak, and will face No. 5-seeded Yale in the third-place match tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.  Drexel improves to 16-4 and will play top-seeded Harvard in the finals tomorrow.

Trinity senior tri-captain Nadiia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) earned a quick 3-0 win to improve to a perfect 12-0 this season at the No. 5 position, while classmate Sarahi Lopez (Zappopan, Mexico) and first-year Janna El Ashmawy (Alexandria, Egypt) won at No. 3 and No. 7, respectively, to keep the Bantams even with the Dragons at 3-3 through the first two waves.  Bantam rookie phenom Malak Moustafa (Alexandria, Egypt) outlasted Drexel's Karina Tyma at the top of the ladder, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 13-15, 11-2, for the fourth Trinity point, but Brooke Herring swept Trinity junior Nanna Carleke (Karlskrona, Sweden), 3-0, to give the Dragons their fourth point.  Youssef won the first two close sets, 15-13, and, 11-9, but Bushma rallied to take the next three, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5.
