WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 7-seeded Trinity College women's ice hockey team was defeated by No. 2 Colby College, 3-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. The Bantams 2021-22 season comes to an end (9-13-2) as Colby advances to the Semifinals on Saturday, March 5 with opponent still to be determined.
After a scoreless first period, it was Trinity netting the game's first goal at the 17:13 mark in the second frame. First-year
Paige Kehoe (Manasquan, N.J.) knocked in the unassisted goal to give the visiting Bantams a 1-0 lead. Trinity held the lead until seven minutes to go in the third period when Colby's Tate Senden scored a game tying short-handed goal during a Trinity power play. Less than three minutes later, McKinley Karpa gave her team the 2-1 lead before the Mules tapped in a final empty net insurance-goal at 19:24 after the Bantams pulled sophomore goaltender
Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) to gain an extra skater in the waning seconds of play. The empty net goal was scored by Lexi Cafiero and was the only goal that was credited with an assist on the day by Meg Rittenhouse.
Colby outshot the Bantams 35-21 as Trinity held the advantage in the faceoff battle 28-26. Both teams went 0-3 on the power play. Kehoe and senior captain
Angelica Mushenko (Longmeadow, Mass.) paced the visitors with four shots apiece while Leclair collected 32 saves in net and Nina Prunster tallied 20 stops for the Mules.
