MEDFORD, Mass. – A balanced scoring attack from Tufts University resulted in a 61-38 triumph over the visiting Trinity College men's basketball team on Friday night in Medford, Mass. The Bantams slide to 10-8 with a 1-5 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play while the Jumbos improve to .500 and pick up their first conference victory. Both teams resume action tomorrow with Trinity traveling to Bates College and Tufts hosting Connecticut College for 3 p.m. tips.
The Bantams struggled on offense in the first half, with the Jumbos holding the visitors to just 11 points through the contest's first 20 minutes of action. Tufts strung together a 17-6 run to take an 11-point lead with just over five minutes left before the break and closed out the first half with 11-unanswered points to lead 31-11.
Trinity posted a strong second half, only being outscored by three points. Senior
Tyler Mola led the Blue and Gold in scoring on the night with 12 points, sinking a pair of 3-pointers and chipping in four rebounds and a steal. Junior
Joseph Hoch registered a career-high nine points while also contributing a steal and four boards. Senior Donald Jorden, Jr. flirted with a double-double finishing just one bucket away from scoring 10 points to go along with his team-high 12 rebounds. The forward form Tampa, Fla. also posted two blocks and two steals on the defensive end of the floor for Trinity.
The Bantams finished the night shooting just 19.7% from the field while Tufts posted a 43.9 field goal percentage. Dylan Thoerner (12) Brennan Morris (11) and Luke Rogers (11) combined for more than 50% of the home team's scoring on the night with Rogers also brining in 10 rebounds to register a double-double.
