Trinity Softball Routs Lawrence University

CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) and first-year Taylor Mikolajczak (John's Creek, Ga.) combined to go 8-for-8 at the plate to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 12-1 victory over the Lawrence University Vikings in softball action this afternoon.  Trinity, which also lost, 4-2, against University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh today The Spring Games softball extravaganza in Central Florida, is now 4-2, and will Buffalo State and Manchester on Thursday after a day off tomorrow.

Trinity broke a scoreless tie with an eight-run third frame and senior RHP Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) tossed a four-hitter with five strikeouts over five innings to improve to 2-1.  Mikolajczak led off the top of the third inning and scored the game's first run on a Tito triple.  Bantam rookie Alexandra Golz (Aberdeen, S.D.) and Mikolajczak each added two-run doubles later in the inning, and Mikolajczak and Tito both tripled in runs during Trinity's four-run fifth inning that ended the game on the five-run mercy rule.  Golz and Trinity first-year Erin Steed (Orland Park, Ill.) both finished 2-for-3 for the Bantam offense.

Wisc.-Oshkosh and Trinity were tied at 1-1 after five innings, but the Titans scored three runs in the sixth frame.  Sophomore Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.) singled home Tito to tie it at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth after the Titans had scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth.  Junior Scarlett Gillette (Andover, Mass.) led off with a double and scored in the seventh, and the Bantams put two more runners on base later in the inning, but Titan pitcher Maddie Fink ended her complete-game effort with her seventh strikeout.  Junior Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) had two hits and sophomore starter Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) took the loss in the circle despite allowing just five hits with four strikeouts over six innings.
