Trinity Women's Lacrosse Edged by Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Trinity College women's lacrosse team fell to the Wesleyan University Cardinals, 11-10, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Smith field in Middletown, Conn. The Bantams fall to 7-4 (4-3 NESCAC) on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 9-2 (4-2). Trinity plays next at Hamilton College on Saturday, April 16 at noon, while Wesleyan hosts Tufts University at 1:00 pm on Saturday.

It was a tight game throughout, with both teams trading goals in the first quarter. Trinity senior attack Lilianna Khosrowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) started the scoring for the Bantams, recording the first goal just over two minutes into the game.  Wesleyan answered shortly after, with junior midfielder Kendall Mittleman (East Islip, N.Y.) netting the equalizer. Junior attack Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored the next two goals for the Bantams, extending their lead to 3-1 before Wesleyan stormed back with four unanswered goals to end the first quarter with a 5-3 lead.  Both teams scored twice in the second quarter, with goals by Ives and sophomore midfielder Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.) for the Bantams and two goals from junior attack Olivia Lai (Basking Ridge, N.J.) for the Cardinals to give them a 7-5 halftime lead.

In the third, Wesleyan scored the first goal came with just 2:58 left as sophomore Laura Baine recorded the tally. The Bantams responded quickly with a goal from senior attack Christine Taylor (Westport, Conn.) cutting the Cardinal lead to 8-6 entering the fourth quarter.  After a Baine goal put Wesleyan up 9-6 early in the fourth, a pair of goals from Khosrowshahi cut the lead to one with 12:31 left in the game.  Wesleyan's Gil Horst and Kiara Tangney pushed the lead back to three.  Two late goals from Taylor and junior Elle Fair (Westport, Conn.) cut the Cardinal lead to 11-10 with three minutes left, but the Bantams could not tie it up, as 11-10 was the final score.
