AMHERST, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end with a pair of setback, 4-2, and, 3-2, at Amherst College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) inter-division action this afternoon.  Trinity pitchers
Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) and
Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) were both solid in complete-game efforts but the Amherst hurlers yielded just three runs between them over 14 innings.  Trinity fall to 15-8 heading into a doubleheader at Coast Guard on Tuesday at 3 p.m.  The Amherst Mammoths are now 15-6.
After two scoreless innings in game one, Trinity got on the board first when junior 3B
Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) led off with a triple and scored on a squeeze bunt by first-year SS
Taylor Mikolajczak (John's Creek, Ga.) in the third.  Amherst took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring on a double steal and an error in the Trinity outfield, and scored twice more in the fourth frame.  Stowers delivered offensively with a two-out single to score Mikolajczak in the fifth to cut the Trinity deficit to 4-2.  Russell doubled in the seventh, but that was only Bantam hit the rest of the way.  Stephen fell to 7-3, allowing six hits and striking our five over six innings of work, while Russell and Stowers had two hits apiece.
The Mammoths left the Bantams on the field in the nightcap, breaking a 2-2 tie with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single by A. Lee.  Trinity committed two errors in the final frame and the game-tying and game-winning runs in the inning were both unearned.  Russell had opened the game with a single and stole second base, before Amherst's T. Bloxham retired 15 Bantams in a row.  Trinity took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, scoring two unearned runs thanks to run-scoring singles by sophomores
Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) and
Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.).  The Mammoths stopped the bleeding when Stowers lined into a double play to end the inning.  The Bantam had two runners on base in the top of the seventh on a walk and a single by rookie
Erin Steed, but came up empty. Stowers struck out four scattered eight hits but fell to 4-3. Bloxham fanned six and improved to 5-3.  Russell had two hits for the Trinity offense.
