Trinity Men's Lacrosse Edged By Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine - Jack Rickards scored the game-winning goal with 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter to lead the Colby College Mules to a 1-12 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon at Seaverns Field.  Trinity falls to 5-7 overall and 1-7 in the NESCAC with its fourth setback in a row, while the Mules improve to 5-7 overall and 2-7 in the league.  Seniors Jack Cahill (Medfield, Mass.) and Connor McCulluch (Alexandria, Va.) scored four goals each for the Bantams.

Cahill and sophomore midfielder Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) scored the game's first two goals less than a minute apart to give Trinity a 2-0 lead, and the Bantams maintained their advantage well into the second quarter.  Trinity junior Ryan Werner (Weston, Conn.) scored with 6:02 left in the first half to give the visitors an 8-4 advantage, but the Mules scored five times in a row in a span of 4:12 to go ahead, 9-0, at the break.

Cahill registered a man-up goal to tie the game back up at the 8:49 mark of the third frame, but the Bantams found themselves behind, 12-10, in the fourth following a man-up goal by Colby's Matt Solmssen.  McCulloch and Cahill scored back to back to knot the game up one last time at 12-apiece with 3:42 on the clock, but Rickard scored moments later.  Bantam sophomore Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw, and took the ball at Colby goalie Will Rickards but his shot was saved.  Trinity got the ball back one last time, but Will Rickards made a save on a Cahill shot and three more Trinity bids were off the mark.  Sophomore goalie Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) had 16 saves, while Will Rickards made 14.  McCulloch and junior Tucker Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) had three ground balls each for Trinity and Colby Rafa Bru won 19 of 26 faceoffs.
