Trinity Men's Lacrosse Finishes 2022 Campaign With Loss At Amherst

Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team fell short in its final game of the season against Amherst College. The Bantams closed the gap with four unanswered goals in the final minutes of play to make the final score, 16-10. Trinity was led by Jack Cahill (Medfield, Mass.), Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.), and William Puccio (Garden City, N.Y.) with two goals apiece. Tanyr Krummenacher and Bayard Demallie paced the home team with five points apiece. Trinity ends it sseason at 6-8 overall and 2-8 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).  No. 18-ranked Amherst ends its regular season at 9-5 overall and 7-3 the the NESCAC.

Amherst jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before Trinity senior Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) found the back of the net from Christopher Larsen (Rocky River, Ohio.) on a fast break. Amherst kept the pressure on and led, 5-1, after one quarter. Amherst scored twice more early in the second quarter, but Fearey dodged the right alley and beat Mammoth goalie Mitch Likins to draw the deficit within five at 7-2. The Bantams were not keen to go away in the second half of the contest. Trinity scored first following a scrum where Cullen Wolff (Maplewood, N.J.) scooped the ball and fired a shot into the back of the net. The Bantams and Mammoths traded blows with Fearey scoring once and Puccio scoring man-up on a Wolff feed.  Amherst scored three times in the final three minutes of the third frame to lead, 12-5.

The fourth quarter saw no relief for the Bantams with three quick goals by the Mammoths to extend their lead to double figures. Off a restart, senior captain Reid McDonald (Aldie, Va.) sliced his way into the defense to end a 12:28 Bantam scoring drought. Amherst scored once more before the Bantam run. Cahill snipes the corners on back-to-back unassisted tallies. Puccio was assisted by Wolff again and senior Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.) closed it out with just 23 seconds to play, 16-10. Defensively, the Bantams were led by Larsen who had four caused turnovers and an assist and sophomore backstop Cooper Yaccino (Kelinworth, Ill) who finished with 14 saves on the day.
