HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College softball team split with Smith College in double-header action on Wednesday afternoon at the Trinity Softball Field. The Bantams lost game one, 6-4 but took game two in commanding fashion taking down the Pioneers, 9-1. Trinity moves to 16-12 on the year while Smith shifts to 11-20. The Bantams resume play tomorrow, hosting Colby College in a conference game at 4 p.m.
Trinity trailed 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning during the day's first tilt but rallied with four runs to cut the deficit to one as
Erin Steed (Orlando Park, Ill.),
Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.),
Alex Chambers (East Lyme, Conn.) and
Hannah Mullaney (Hebron, Conn.) all recorded RBIs. Smith then added a sixth run in the top of the seventh and the Bantams were unable to generate any scoring in their final at bats. First-year
Taylor Mikolajczak (John's Creek, Ga.) also picked up her 20
th and 21
st stolen bases of the season, joining teammate
Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) in the Trinity College softball program record book for most stolen bases in a single-season.
Senior
Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) pitched a 6-inning complete game with four strikeouts and allowed just one run in game two. Three runs from the Bantams in the first and four runs in the third gave the home squad a 7-1 lead heading into the fourth. Trinity walked off in the bottom of the sixth when they took an eight run advantage after Tito doubled to right center to score Mullaney. Tito went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Chambers knocked in three runs on a base-clearing triple in her first at bat of game two. Through both games, Chambers finished 3-for-6 with four RBIs and one run scored.
