Trinity Baseball Drops Pair At Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams lost both games of a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball doubleheader this afternoon against the Colby College Mules on Coombs Field.  Trinity drops to 14-16 overall and 6-5 in the NESCAC East, missing out on a chance to host the opening round of the conference championship's first round series next weekend with the two losses.  Colby improves to 19-11 overall and 7-4 in the division.  The teams will play tomorrow at noon to close out the series.  Trinity sophomore Bennett Teceno (Centerville, Mass.) has two hits in each game, doubling and homering in the nightcap.

The first game was scheduled for seven innings but went two extra frames, as the teams were tied at one-all until the Mules left the Bantams on the field with a run in the bottom of the ninth.  Trinity struck early with a run in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by senior OF Colin Mann (Dedham, Mass.) but Colby's Drew Miller homered in the second to tie it.  Trinity did not get a hit after the fifth inning, but had a runner on third base in the ninth when Mann struck out but ended up 90 feet away from scoring the go-ahead run thanks to Colby passed balls.  Mann did not get score, however, and the Mules won the game in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by Miller with one out.  Trinity rookie RHP MIke Aceto (Hamden, Conn.) pitched into the ninth inning and allowed just five hits with a strikeout and a walk but takes the loss.

Colby jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two, but Trinity scored three times in both the third and fourth innings to pull within one.  Bantam junior OF Brandon Chow (Greenwich, Conn.) had an RBI single and junior C Jake Miller (Marblehead, Mass.) doubled and scored on Teceno's two-run blast in the third.  In the fourth inning, rookie 3B Tanner Fairchild (Sarasota, Fla.) had an RBI, Chow had a run and an RBI, and Teceno had an RBI double for the visitors.  Colby answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, however, and the Trinity bats went silent again with no hits over the last three frames.  Fairchild had two hits in game two, while sophomore Sam Craven (Wakefield, R.I.) and senior William Simeone (Milton, Mass.) combined to allow just one earned run with five K's over the last five innings in relief for Trinity.
