Trinity Softball Shuts Out Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Senior Jordan Stephan pitched a seven-inning shutout to lead the Trinity College softball team to a 5-0 win over Bowdoin College on Friday afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action. The Bantams improve to 10-6 overall with a 3-0 mark in conference play while the Polar Bears fall to 8-10 and 0-4 in the NESCAC. Both squads will face-off again tomorrow with a double header starting at 2:30 p.m. in Maine.

Sophomore Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) went 2-for-4 and knocked in the first run of the game in the third inning with an RBI triple that brought home first-year Taylor Mikolajczak (John's Creek, Ga.). Next inning, senior Maura Keary grounded out to short stop but earned an RBI as pinch runner Alexandra Golz (Aberdeen, S.D.) scored from third. Trinity continued to extend their lead by one run, one inning at a time with sophomore Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.) ripping an RBI double in the fifth and junior Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) scoring first-year Erin Steed (Orland Park, Ill.) in similar fashion the following inning.

In the seventh, sophomore Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) tallied an RBI single on an infield hit to bring the Bantam lead to 5-0 and Stephan closed out the game and secured the shutout by stringing together three-straight outs after Bowdoin put their first two runners on base.

Russell joined Tito with a 2-for-4, one RBI day while junior Alyssa Gazivoda (Poughquag, N.Y.) , Mikolajczak, Rogers, Stowers and Steed all tallied hits on the afternoon. Stephan struckout five batters and earned her seventh win in the circle this season.
