HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams and the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University waited out a 90-minute postponement and a 30-minute lightning delay, before playing to a scoreless tie in women's soccer action this evening at Trinity Soccer Field. The Bantams remain unbeaten at 1-0-2 with their second stalemate in a row, and Eastern Connecticut moves to 1-1-2 overall. The Bantams return to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play this weekend with their first conference match on the road versus Colby on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Warriors are at Mass.-Boston on Saturday at 1 p.m. Trinity junior goalkeeper
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) posted her second shutout of the season with two saves and has allowed just one goal in 270 minutes thus far.
Trinity outshot Eastern Connecticut, 7-1, in the first half and the game was played predominantly in the home team's offensive zone, but there were no real close chances. The second half was similar until the last 10 minutes when Trinity's closest chance came off the foot of junior back
Lexi Hasbrouck (Hopkinton, Mass.). After an Eastern Connecticut foul in the 80th minute, the Bantams had a free kick from the center of the field just outside the box and senior forward
Hannah Storozuk (Tolland, Conn.) quickly found Hasbrouck wide open on the right flank. A Warrior defender sprinted back and was able to deflect Hasbrouck's shot and slow it down so Emily Wallace could make a save for the visitors. Eastern Connecticut had a late corner kick but nothing came of it, and Trinity junior forward
Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) got off a decent bid in the final seconds that Wallace stopped for her sixth and final save of the night.
