Jaheim Scott '24 and the Bantam Offensive Line Have Allowed Just One Sack

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College football team, which defeated Colby, 19-7, last weekend to improve to 2-0, will visit the Amherst College Mammoths on Saturday, October 1 at 1 p.m.  The Bantams, coached by Jeff Devanney (17th season, 106-20) trail the all-time series against Amherst , 60-47-9, but have won the last three meetings.  The Bantams blasted the Mammoths, 49-7, in Hartford last fall.  Trinity is tied with Middlebury for first place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at 2-0.  Amherst, in its 25th year under Head Coach E.J. Mills, is 0-2 after a 24-10 road loss at Hamilton on September 24.

First-year RB Tyler DiNapoli (West Haven, Conn.) totaled 199 yards and two touchdowns rushing and receiving to lead Trinity past Colby last weekend.  The Bantams came back from a 7-0 deficit in the third quarter to score 19 unanswered points against the Mules.  Senior QB Spencer Fetter (Winter Park, Fla.) found TE Thomas Walsh (Pelham, N.Y.) for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the third frame to tie the score and passed to DiNapoli for the go-ahead score from 11 yards out later in the period.  DiNapoli added a two-yard plunge into the end zone in the fourth quarter, although Trinity came up empty twice on conversions to account for 19-7 final tally.  DiNapoli rushed 29 times for 140 yards and caught three passes for a team-high 59 yards, while WR DeVante Reid (London, England) added 51 receiving yards.  Fetter completed 19 of 25 passes for 229 yards and two scores.  Defensively, Trinity captains Brian Casagrande (Madison, Conn.) and Aidan Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way with seven and six tackles, respectively, while senior CB Darren Warren (West Haven, Conn.) broke up three passes.  The Bantams dominated the line of scrimmage, holding the Mules to 39 rushing yards on 24 tries.

The Trinity defense tops the NESCAC total defense (251 ypg) and first downs allowed (29), while the offense tops the conference in first downs (46), 3rd-Down conversion (53.1%), and time of possession (34:33 per game).  Fetter ranks third the league in passing in terms of both yards (502) and efficiency (154.9), and total offense (327 ypg), while DiNapoli is second and junior Will Kirby (Darien, Conn.) is eighth in the conference with 167 and 114 rushing yards, respectively.  Reid is tied as the fifth-leading receiver in the league with 10 catches for 121 yards (T8th in NESCAC).  DiNapoli also ranks fourth in all-purpose yards with 256.  On defense, Casagrande is tied for fifth in the NESCAC in tackles with 18 (14 solo), while senior S Hunter Tully (Taunton, Mass.) has 10.  Amherst has struggled offensively with just 16 points in its two losses.  Mammoth QB Mike Piazza has a rating below 100 but is Amherst's second-leading rusher with 62 yards.  The Mammoths are averaging just 2.5 rushing yards per attempt.  Carson Ochsenshirt has been a bright spot with 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.  Junior LB Andy Shirzenski leads the Amherst defense with 16 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception.
