Trinity Men's Soccer Ties Emerson In Season Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior co-captain Matt Moran (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) scored the Bantam goal to tie the game in the 36th minute, as the Trinity College Bantams opened the 2022 season with a 1-1 draw against the visiting Emerson College Lions in men's soccer action this evening on Trinity Soccer Field.  Trinity was playing its first game under Head Coach Methembe Ndlovu, while the Lions remain unbeaten at 1-0-2.  Trinity hosts New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Hamilton on Saturday, September 10 at 11 a.m. in its next game.

Emerson opened the scoring when Ben Deeming got behind the Bantam defense and sent the ball from the right flank to Thomas Chuaqui for the game's first marker in the 17th minute.  Trinity senior midfielder Alex Guglielmo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) found Moran for the game-tying goal off one of Trinity's 10 corner kicks.  Trinity took all four shots of the second half and outshot the Lions, 10-4, in the game.  Bantam junior Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) had two saves and Ethan Fitzsimmons had two for Emerson, including a game-saving stop against Trinity junior Dante Merlin (South Windsor, Conn.) on a hard shot from close in the 85th minute.
