Box Score DANBURY, Conn. – Trinity College junior goalkeeper Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) made three saves to record a 3-0 shutout victory over the Western Connecticut State University Wolves in women's soccer action on a soggy Tuesday night at the Westside Athletic Complex. Trinity controlled the play finishing with an 18-4 advantage in shots as three different players pierced the scoring column. Trinity wins its season opener, while Western Connecticut falls to 1-2. The Bantams will host New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Hamilton in their next game on Saturday, September 10 at 2 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, the Bantams got things going in the second. Junior tri-captain midfielder Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.) gathered a deflected ball and blasted a shot from the top of the box into the top-left corner of the twine to make it a 1-0 contest in the 52nd minute of play. Less than three minutes later, Trinity added to its lead when first-year forward Elena Lindonen (Boxford, Mass.) chased down a long pass from junior defender Laurel Iorio (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and booted a low shot into the back of the net for her first career tally.
The visitors rounded the count out at 3-0 when senior Hannah Storozuk (Tolland, Conn.) took a feed from senior forward Julianna Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) and tickled the twine in the 85th minute. WestConn nearly broke up the shutout when junior midfielder Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) ripped a rocket off a corner kick feed from senior forward Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.).
