Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Third-Period Rally Seals 2-1 Win for Men's Ice Hockey at Middlebury

Andrew Troy and Devan Tongue net game-tying and winning goals in the final period for the Bantams.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — In back-to-back road games, Andrew Troy (Ithaca , N.Y.) had a hand in wins for the Trinity College men's ice hockey program, this time the senior netted the game-tying goal before Devan Tongue's (Hampden, Mass.) bullet delivered the 2-1 win at Middlebury College on Saturday. The Bantams improved to 7-5 on the season and 4-2 in New England Small College Athletic Conference action, while the Panthers dropped to 1-11 and 1-7. Trinity comes home for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against league foe Colby College on January 13 at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.

With the scoreboard stagnant at zero across the board through the opening period, the home team took advantage of the short-handed Bantams with a powerplay goal halfway through the second period. Despite the one puck to sneak past Devon Bobak (Northwood, Ohio) fortified the box with 22 saves with eight coming off the third period. It wouldn't be until ten minutes into the third period before Troy etched the game-tying goal off the sticks of Jacob Smith (Anchorage, Alaska) and Richard Boysen (Belle Vernon, Penn.). Two and a half minutes later, Tongue connected for the eventual game-winning goal off the smooth pass from Nicholas Siffringer (Franklin Lakes, N.J.). The Panthers had the chance to tie the game but Bobak made four saves and Spencer Korona (Enfield, Conn.) blocked a tight shot.
