Prior to the match, the Women's Soccer program honored their 12 departing seniors:
Olivia Domingos (Woburn, Mass.),
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.),
Nina Sharp (Thousand Oaks, Calif.),
Tess Flanders (Norwell, Mass.),
Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.),
Gabby Grattan (Milton, Mass.),
Lexi Hasbrouck (Hopkinton, Mass.),
Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.),
Laurel Iorio (Signal Mountain, Tenn.),
Sofie Vogel (Palo Alto, Calif. ),
Sadie Rudolph (Weston, Conn.), and
Dot Tilden (Hanover, Mass.).
"This group was my first recruiting class, so I feel for them a lot," said Trinity Head Coach
Rachael Schroeder. "They've been amazing. They've certainly made a mark on the soccer field, they played lots of minutes since they arrived, but off the field too. They've set the standard of what it means to a part of Trinity College Women's Soccer."
Over nearly 40 minutes of scoreless play, Trinity had their best scoring chance off the first half as sophomore
Alyssa Keane (Dedham, Mass.) elevated for a cross into the box and delivered a header that rang off the left post, to keep the score at 0-0 at the half.
Less than five minutes into the Bantams offense finally broke through as sophomore
Elena Lindonen pressured an attempted clear from Wildcats junior keeper Carly McCrumb (Grandville, Mich.), knocked down her attempt and then lifted a shot from 20 yards out into a wide open net, putting Trinity on top 1-0.
In the 61
st minute of play, the Bantams added an insurance goal as Rudolph launched a ball from midfield towards the Wildcats net, where Lindonen chased down the loose ball and chipped a shot over a challenging McCrumb, to extend the lead to the eventual final score of 2-0.
"It was a great win, and we got to play all of our seniors on Senior Day," added Schoeder. "We played two really good halves, but in the second half, we started playing more direct and using our speed, which led to both of our goals. The difference between last year and this year at this stage is that we are scoring more goals and just playing better soccer."
The Bantams outshot the Wildcats, 14-9, during the contest, while both teams attempted two corner kicks. Cournoyer made two saves for Trinity, while McCrumb stopped a match-high seven shots for Johnson & Wales.
The Bantams will look return to the pitch with a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at Williams College Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for Noon.
