Field Hockey Will Battle Top-Ranked Middlebury In NESCAC Quarterfinals

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity Field Hockey squad is gearing up to battle top-ranked and top-seeded Middlebury College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Field Hockey Championship Quarterfinals Saturday at Peter Kohn Field Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Bantam Bytes
  • The Bantams enter the matchup with a record of 9-6 overall with a 4-6 mark in conference play.
  • Trinity is looking to make their third straight Semifinal appearance after falling to Tufts, 1-0, in the 2022 NESCAC Championship Semifinals.
  • As a team, the Bantams defense is fifth in the conference, allowing less than two goals per game (1.73).
  • Senior keeper Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) lead the conference in save percentage (77.2) and ranks fourth in saves (71) and goals against average (1.53).
  • Junior Izzy Deveney (Westport, Conn.) sits atop the conference in defensive saves with five, while leading the team in assists with five as well.
  • Offensively, the Bantams are generating 2.4 goals per game on 11.4 shots, ranking eighth and fourth, respectively, in conference.
  • Senior Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) ranks fifth in the NESCAC in points (31), goals (14), and game-winning goals (3).
  • Senior Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, Mass.) totaled 21 points on the season, ranking ninth in goals with nine.
Scouting the Panthers
  • The Panthers are the top-ranked team in the country and have qualified for every NESCAC Field Hockey Tournament since its inception in 2000.
  • Middlebury are the reigning NESCAC Champions and have won the conference crown nine times. Middlebury wrapped up their second undefeated regular season in the last three years, sporting a record of 15-0 and 10-0 in the NESCAC. 
  • Currently, the Panthers are riding a 24-game win streak, dating back to the 2022 season.
  • As a team, Middlebury ranks first in goals (78), assists (44), shots (433), shots on goal (262), points per game (13.33), and goals against average (0.53).
  • Middlebury is paced by the duo of Katie George and Amy Griffin, who are tied for the league-lead in goals.
  • Griffin amassed a league-high 40 points, while George ranked second in conference with 34 points.
  • Caroline Segel has added 10 goals and eight assists, while Audrey Lazar has chipped in nine goals with five assists.
  • In the cage, keeper KK Newton owns a 0.51 Goals Against Average, best in the NESCAC, with 23 saves and nine shutouts, including two combined shutouts.
 
Last Meeting vs. Middlebury
  • The Panthers defeated the Bantams, 6-2, at Robin L. Sheppard Field on October 14.
  • Middlebury outshot Trinity, 19-10, and had the edge in penalty corners, 6-5, during the contest.
  • Trinity is joined Babson as the only teams to score two goals on Middlebury during the season.
  • Winfield registered both goals for the Bantams, while McMichael made eight saves in the cage.
  • George netted three goals for the Panthers, while Griffin added a goal and an assist.
