Women's Soccer Seeks To Avenge Postseason Loss at Wesleyan

The Bantams will battle the Cardinals at Noon

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-seeded Trinity College Women's Soccer team will travel to four-seed Wesleyan University in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals Saturday at Jackson Field Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Bantam Bytes
  • The Bantams are 24-15-7 all-time against Wesleyan.
  • Trinity posted a regular season record of 7-5-3 with a 4-4-2 mark in NESCAC play.
  • The Bantams are making their third straight appearance in the NESCAC Championship Quarterfinal.
  • Trinity is looking to avenge a Semifinals loss to Wesleyan in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
  • Last season, the fifth-seeded Bantams defeated fourth-seeded Middlebury College, 2-1, in the Quarterfinals.
  • Defensively, the Bantams allowed the third-fewest goals in the conference (10) and posted the second-highest save percentage (.863)
  • Senior goalkeeper Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) led the conference in shutouts (7), while  ranking third in saves (60), save percentage (.857), and fourth in goals against average (.678).
  • Offensively, sophomore Elena Lindonen (Boxford, Mass.) ranks third in the NESCAC in goals (7), shots on goal (23), and fourth in points (17).
  • Senior Gabby Grattan (Milton, Mass.) has notched three goals on the season, and senior Sadie Rudolph has a team-high three assists along with Lindonen.
Scouting the Cardinals
  • The Cardinals enter the tournament with a 7-5-3 mark on the season and a 3-2-5 record in the NESCAC.
  • Wesleyan has made back-to-back appearance in the Championship match, falling to Middlebury in 2021 and Amherst in 2022.
  • Defensively, the Cardinals lead the conference with 82 saves behind the goalkeeping duo of Molly Brumbach and Juliette Varner.
  • Brumbach paces the conference in goals against average (.909), save percentage (.909), and saves per game (5.45), while Varner owns a 5-1 record in goal with three goals allowed in six starts.
  • Waverly Meyers leads the Cardinals offense with a team-high five goals, while Audrey Lavey has added three goals with a team-high six assists.
 
Last Meeting vs. Wesleyan
  • The Bantams and the Cardinals battled to a 1-1 overtime draw in the 2023 regular season meeting on September 23rd.
  • Meyers netted the opening goal for Wesleyan in the 13th minute, until Trinity senior Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) evened the score in the 58th minute.
  • The Cardinals edged the Bantams in the shot column, 10-7, and corner kicks, 6-5, during the contest.
