Men's Soccer Wins Second-Straight After 2-0 Shutout Over WNEU

James Donaldson netted both goals for the Bantams for his second multi-goal game of the season.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Captain James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) notched his second two-goal game of the season to lead the Trinity College men's soccer team to its second-straight victory as the Bantams outlasted Western New England University, 2-0, on the Trinity Soccer Field on Wednesday. Trinity improved to 3-4-2 overall, while the Golden Bears fell to 2-5-4. The Navy & Gold hosts its Senior Day on October 14 against New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent Middlebury College for Trinity's Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Donaldson opened up the scoring on the night four minutes into regulation after Quinn Ackman (Evanston, Ill.) drilled a perfectly placed corner kick to put Trinity quickly up, 1-0. Ackamn sent the ball to the left center of the net, where Donaldson met it before taking a pair of dribbles to allude the defender's for his first goal of the contest. The Bantams only attempted two more shots as the Golden Bears goalkeeper Braylon Casinghino recorded a save at the 15th minute mark followed by a blocked shot off the boot of Ackman five minutes later.

The visitors kept the backfield and goalkeeper Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) on their toes with eight shots and five corner kicks in the half. Simoes denied a trio of first half shots, while four WNEU shots were denied by the Bantams' defenders.

Another Ackamn corner kick opportunity allowed the Navy & Gold to score again, this time it was Michael Traynor (Rye, N.Y.) heading the ball across the box to a well positioned Donaldson who connected with the top corner of the net. Mike Milazzo had a pair of back-to-back tight shots on goal in the 83 and 84th minutes but Simoes stood tall to keep the scoreboard clean. The senior tallied five saves through full time, while Casinghino opened the first 65 minutes with two saves and Ryan Suprin totaled three for the remaining time.
