BRUNSWICK, Maine —
Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) delivered her fifth shutout of the season — 14th career — in the No. 24 Trinity College field hockey team's 1-0 triumph over New England Small College Athletic Conference foe No. 12 Bowdoin College on Saturday. The Bantams improved to 7-4 overall and 3-4 in the league, while the Polar Bears dipped to 7-3 and 2-3. Trinity stays on the road in a midweek matchup against Keene State on October 10 at 6:30 p.m.
The first quarter started slow with only one shot by either team as McMichael recorded her first save off an early shot by Maya Malenfant less than five minutes in.
Demi Janis (Cos Cob, Conn.) had an opportunity to score off a penalty corner inserted by
Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) but Georgie Coetzer's defensive save kept the scoreboard clear in the opening quarter.
The hosts played aggressively offense in the second quarter and rattled off five shots, including back-to-back attempts in 24th minute but McMichael stopped one and
Kylie Tierney's (Garden City, N.Y.) defensive save denied the second. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half,
Jackie Frank netted the eventual game-winning goal after five straight fouls slowed the pace of the contest.
