WESTON, Mass. – The Trinity College Men's Basketball team opened their 2023-24 season with a 71-56 non-conference victory over host Regis College Friday night at Higgins Court. The Bantams begin the season with a 1-0 mark, while Regis sits at 0-1.

The Bantams grabbed an early edge over the Pride as a fast break layup from graduate Dana Smith (Providence, R.I.) handed Trinity a 14-7 advantage with 13:58 remaining in the first half. Regis used a 7-0 run over the next three minutes to even the game at 14-14, but the Bantams regained control with a 9-0 run, featuring five points from junior Sean Macarchuk (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) to lead 23-14 with 8:15 on the clock. Sophomore Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, N.Y.) and senior Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to push the Bantams lead to double digits, 29-19, and then junior Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) buried a jumper at the 2:17 mark to give Trinity a 35-21 lead. The Pride added a pair of late buckets to trim the deficit to 36-25 at the break.

Regis looked to close the gap in the opening minutes of the second half, as a pair of free throws from Joshua Perez made it a 42-34 game with 15:56 to play. Leading 51-42 at the 10:27 mark, the Bantams pulled away behind a 12-2 run over the next four minutes, paced by six-point efforts from Vetter and Callahan-Gold, to balloon the lead to 63-44. The Pride responded with a 9-0 run, but Trinity outscored Regis 8-3 down the stretch to secure the 71-56 victory.

Trinity outrebounded Regis, 41-26, and controlled the paint, 40-28, while the Pride bench edged the Bantams, 18-15, during the game. Trinity connected on 28-of-61 (45.9%) attempts from the field, including 6-for-22 (27.3%) from three-point range, and 9-of-15 from the free throw line.
