Volleyball Prepares For Tufts In NESCAC Championship Quarterfinals

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-seeded Trinity College Women's Volleyball team will battle fourth-seeded Tufts University Jumbos in the 2023 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Volleyball Quarterfinals Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Bantam Bytes
  • The Bantams reached the 15-win plateau for the first time since 2013, posting a 15-7 record with a 6-4 mark in the NESCAC.
  • Earlier this season, the Bantams fell to the Jumbos, 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 15-25).
  • Offensively, Trinity ranks second in the NESCAC in total points (1297), total kills (1,010), and total assists (934). The Bantams rank third in hitting percentage (.203), total blocks (147), and total digs (1,301).
  • Per set, the Bantams are averaging 12.32 kills, 11.39 assists, and 1.79 blocks, ranking fourth in the NESCAC in all three categories.
  • Junior Bella Caffuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leads the conference in blocks (76), while ranking second in hitting percentage (.354) and fourth in blocks per set (0.94). Caffuzzi knocked 178 kills during the season, second-most on the team.
  • Junior Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) led the Bantams with 202 kills, ranking eighth in the NESCAC, while seniors Margaret McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) and Lola Craig (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 166 and 161 kills, respectively.
  • Sophomore Caroline Howell (Houston, Texas) ranked fifth in the conference in 507 assists, averaging 6.18 assists per set.
  • First year Scarlett Jago (Allentown, Pa.) has grabbed a team-high 362 digs, fifth-most in the NESCAC, with 89 assists and 22 service aces.
 
Scouting The Jumbos
  • Tufts finished the regular season with a 13-9 record, including a 6-4 record in the NESCAC.
  • Tufts enters the matchup after claiming back-to-back three-set victories over Connecticut College and Bowdoin.
  • As a team, the Jumbos lead the NESCAC in total points (1,345), total kills (1,017) and total assists (946) with a .191 hitting percentage, fifth-best in conference. Defensively, Tufts ranks second in total blocks (155), third in blocks per set (1.91), sixth in total digs (1,224) and eighth in digs per set (15.11).
  • From the service line, Tufts ranks second in conference in total service aces (173) and fourth in aces per set (2.14).
  • The Jumbos are averaging 12.56 kills per set and 11.68 assists per set, third-best in the NESCAC in both categories.
  • Senior Rileigh Farragher (Evanston, Ill.) registered a team-high 200 kills, ranking tenth in the conference.
  • Junior Alina Qi (San Francisco, Calif.) ranks second in the NESCAC in blocks per set (0.99) and third in total blocks with 67.
  • First year Claire Castor (Carmel, Ind.) has tallied 35 service aces, third-most in conference, and ranks fourth in aces per set (0.49).
  • Senior Megan Harrison (Cleveland, Ohio) ranks fourth in the NESCAC with 364 digs, averaging 4.49 per set, seventh-best in conference, and 102 assists.
  • Senior Maddie Yu (San Diego, Calif.) doled out 387 assists, eighth-most in the NESCAC, with 24 service aces.

  • The Jumbos are riding an 11-match win streak against the Bantams.
  • Trinity's last victory over Tufts came in the 2012 season with a 3-0 win on September 14.
  • Last season, the Jumbos defeated the Bantams in the NESCAC Championship Quarterfinals, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-17).
