Men's Basketball Dominates Elms, 95-60

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Trinity College Men's Basketball team overwhelmed host Elms College, 95-60, in a non-conference game at Picknelly Arena Tuesday night. The Bantams improve to 6-0 on the season, while Elms dips to 2-4 overall.

The Bantams raced to a 17-4 lead in the opening five minutes of play, led by 10 points from Ben Callahan-Gold. The Blazers rallied with a 11-4 run to close the gap to two possessions, 21-15, but Trinity regained control as Drew Lazarre netted 10 straight points as part of a 12-5 run to put the Bantams ahead 33-20. Callahan-Gold registered 10 points down the stretch of the first half to give Trinity a 47-28 lead at the break.

Trinity continued their offensive dominance in the second half, using a 14-5 run over the first five minutes to seize a 61-33 advantage. Junior Sean Macarchuk converted a layup in the paint at the 8:39 mark to give the Bantams their largest lead of the game, 80-38. Sophomore Dane Moran and first year Jared Berry each added four points over the final minutes to lock up the 95-60 victory.

The Bantams controlled the glass, 33-22, and points in the paint, 50-24, during the game. Trinity connected on 36-of-63 (57.1%) from the field, including 9-of-23 (39.1%) from three-point range, and 14-of-16 (87.5%) from the foul line. The Blazers shot 18-of-49 (36.7%) from the floor, 3-of-9 (33.3%) from three-point, and 21-of-26 (80.8%) from the charity stripe.

Callahan-Gold powered the Bantams offense with a season-high 29 points, eight rebounds, four blocks two assists. Lazarre tallied 11 points with a game-high seven assists, while sophomore Henry Vetter and graduate Dana Smith chipped in 10 points and four rebounds apiece in the win.

The Bantams return to the court with a non-conference road trip to Anna Maria College on Tuesday, November 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
