Men's Basketball Defeats Anna Maria, 87-66

Box Score PAXTON, Mass. – The Trinity College Men's Basketball team rolled past host Anna Maria College, 87-66, in a non-conference game at the Fuller Activities Center Tuesday night. The Bantams improve to 7-0 overall, while the Amcats drop to 3-4 on the season.

The Bantams secured an early 10-3 lead behind a pair of three-pointers from senior Ben Callahan-Gold at the 17:27 mark of the first half. Following a pair of layups from graduate Dana Smith, Callahan-Gold knocked down three straight three-pointers to extend the lead to 25-6 with 12:52 remaining in the first half. The Bantams had eight different players register points during an 18-8 run over the next 10 minutes to pad the lead to 43-14. A layup from sophomore Jarrel Okorougo gave Trinity their largest lead of the game, 49-16, but Anna Maria closed the gap to 49-24 at the half.

The sides traded points over the opening minutes of the second half until an 11-2 run from the Amcats trimmed the deficit to 57-39 with 15:25 on the clock. The Bantams halted the Anna Maria momentum with a 9-4 run, bookended by buckets from Callahan-Gold, to regain a 66-43 lead at the 11:57 mark. The teams went on a scoring drought over the next four minutes with only four points coming from the Amcats. Trinity snapped the cold streak with five points from junior Sean Macarchuk, followed by three consecutive buckets from sophomore Henry Vetter to make it 77-55 with 4:55 to play. Okorougo punctuated the victory with a pair of dunks down the stretch en route to the 87-66 win.

The Bantams dominated the rebounding column, 48-20, and points in the paint, 46-24, during the contest. Trinity connected on 33-of-60 (55.0%) from the field, including 7-of-21 (33.3%) from three-point range, and 14-of-23 (60.9%) from the foul line. Anna Maria shot 26-of-61 (42.6%) from the floor, 6-of-15 (40.0%) from beyond the arc, and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the free throw line.

The Bantams had four scorers register double figures in points, led by Callahan-Gold with a game-high 23 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point, with six rebounds and two assists. Vetter tallied 17 points with a game-high six assists and five rebounds, while Okorougo notched 15 points, connecting on a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, with a game-high seven rebounds and two assists. Junior Will Dorion had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in the win.

Trinity will look to remain undefeated when they travel to Norwich University for the Ed Hockenbury Classic. The Bantams will face Framingham State Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and then face either host Norwich or Maine-Fort Kent Sunday afternoon.
