Men's Hockey Routs Rivier, 8-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Hockey team rolled past visiting Rivier University, 8-1, in a non-conference battle at Koeppel Sports Center Tuesday night. The Bantams move to 3-0 on the season, while Rivier sits at 2-4-1 overall.

The Bantams opened the scoring in the 10th minute as senior Kyle Tomaso found classmate John Campomenosi at the point, where he ripped a shot past Rivier junior goalie Luke Newell to stake Trinity to a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, the Bantams cashed in on a power play as potted home a feed from senior Devon Tongue, making it a 2-0 game. With 6:47 remaining in the first period, senior Jacob Smith redirected a shot from first year David Paluch past Newell to extend the Bantams lead to 3-0 heading into the second period.

Trinity maintained their momentum in the second period, netting two goals in the opening minute of play. Campomenosi fired a shot through traffic for his second of the game, and then junior Eamon Doheny beat Newell with a shot from the point to pad the Bantams lead to 5-0 with 19:09 on the clock. With 4:26 remaining in the period, first year Connor Sedlak snagged a loose puck in the neutral zone, raced the Raiders net and sniped a shot past sophomore goaltender Will Augustine to put Trinity up 6-0 with one frame to play.

The Bantams added a pair of goals in the final period as senior Gerard Maretta scored on a Trinity power play, followed by a tally from junior Nicholas Siffringer to build a 8-0 advantage. The Raiders prevented the shutout behind a goal from first year Jake Laville with 5:07 to play as the Bantams cruised to the 8-1 victory.

Campomenosi registered two goals and an assist, while Tomaso dished out a game-high four assists in the win. Sedlak notched a goal with two assists, while Maretta and Smith tallied a goal and an assist each in the win.

The Bantams dominated the shot column, 42-8, and faceoff circle, 50-31, during the contest. Sophomore Devon Bobak recorded four saves, while senior Drake Wheelden stopped three shots in relief. Newell made 13 saves, Augustine totaled a game-high 14 saves, and first year Mason Meyer had seven saves in a combined effort for Rivier.

The Bantams will look to remain unbeaten when they welcome UMass-Boston to the Koeppel Center Saturday. Puck drops at 3:00 p.m.
