HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey squad shutout visiting Manhattanville College, 4-0, in a non-conference game at Koeppel Community Sports Center Tuesday night. The Bantams move to 1-2-0 on the season, while the Valiants dip to 2-4-1 overall.
After more than 10 minutes of scoreless play, the Bantams cracked the scoreboard as senior Corinne Bolding pursued a puck along the boards towards the corner, gathered and dished a pass to the front of the net, where sophomore Lillian Cassidy tucked a shot past Manhattanville goaltender Franny Gerardi glove-side to hand Trinity a 1-0 lead.
The Bantams looked to add to their advantage in the 17th minute as junior Paige Kehoe swiped a loose puck in the Valiants zone and had a breakaway towards the net, but Gerardi made a clutch save to keep the score at 1-0.
With 15:18 remaining in the second period, Kehoe spun a pass around the boards, landing at the stick of sophomore Ava Gosnell, who ripped a shot through traffic in front of the Manhattanville and into the back of the net to hand Trinity a 2-0 lead.
Just over four minutes later, the Bantams struck again on a power play as junior Jelani Adorno fired a shot on net, which Gerardi saved, but she couldn't control the loose puck, which bounded to the stick of classmate Martina Exnerova, who placed a shot into the open net, making it a 3-0 game. Trinity delivered their final strike as Gosnell found senior Hannah Feinberg streaking to the net for the finish to send the Bantams to the 4-0 victory.
Gosnell, Exnerova and Feinberg each recorded a goal and an assist. Kehoe added two assists with five shots. First year Marta Mazzocchi recorded a team-high eight shots in the win.
The Bantams doubled up the Valiants in the shot column, 31-15, and won the face-off battle, 27-20, during the game. Trinity senior Hannah LeClair recorded her first shutout of the season, stopping all 16 shots faced, while Gerardi logged a game-high 27 saves for Manhattanville.
The Bantams will return to the ice with a non-conference road trip to the University of New England Saturday. Puck drops at 4:00 p.m.
