BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Trinity College Women's Hockey team netted three unanswered goals during a 4-1 victory over host University of New England in non-conference action at Alford Forum Saturday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 2-2 overall, while the Nor'easters 4-3-1 on the season.
Midway through the first period, the Bantams broke a scoreless tie as senior Anne Levia and junior Paige Kehoe moved the puck through the Nor'easters zone, finding junior Martina Exnerova, who placed a shot past UNE goaltender Kaleigh Laurendeau to give Trinity a 1-0 lead.
UNE evened the score in the second period behind a goal from Jamie DuPont in the ninth minute to set the score at 1-1. Just over six minutes later, Bantams sophomore Emma Robertson worked the puck to junior Claire Kennedy at the point, where she fired a shot past Laurendeau, to regain a 2-1 lead for Trinity.
With 2:10 remaining in the second period, the Bantams added to their advantage as sophomore Jelani Adorno moved the puck to Exnerova, who found sophomore Lillian Cassidy near the net for the finish to build a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.
Trinity delivered their final strike on a power play late in the third period. The Bantams circled the puck with the skater advantage and first year Marta Mazzocchi dropped a pass to Robertson at the top of the circle, where she blasted a shot to the back of the net, sending Trinity to the 4-1 victory.
The Bantams dominated the shot column, 48-9, and the faceoff circle, 39-18, during the game. Trinity senior Hannah Leclair tallied eight saves in the win, while Laurendeau posted a game-high 44 saves for the Nor'easters.
The Bantams return to the ice for a non-conference home tilt against Albertus Magnus at the Koeppel Sports Center Sunday evening. Puck drops at 6:30 p.m.
