CLINTON, N.Y. – The Trinity College Women's Hockey team suffered a 3-1 road defeat to sixth-ranked Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Russell Sage Rink Friday evening. The Bantams dip to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the NESCAC, while Hamilton rises to 1-2 in conference and 3-2 on the season.
After two periods of scoreless play, the Continentals broke through with 4:38 remaining in the game when Claire McGennis scored off a feed from Ava Romano to hand Hamilton a 1-0 lead. Following the goal, the Continentals won the following faceoff and quickly moved the puck to Abby Smith for a goal just 15 seconds later to put Hamilton ahead 2-0.
The Bantams potted their first goal on a power play with just over a minute remaining as sophomore Jelani Adorno took a pass from junior Martina Exnerova and fired a shot from the point past Hamilton goalie Teagan Brown to trim the deficit to 2-1. The Continentals added an insurance empty net goal in the final minute from sophomore Lydia Bullock to secure the 3-1 victory.
The Bantams outshot the Continentals, 29-16, and controlled the faceoff circle, 27-20. Senior goalie Hannah Leclair made 13 saves for Trinity, while Brown stopped a game-high 28 shots for Hamilton.
The Bantams and Continentals will square off again Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Russell Sage Rink.
