Men's Hockey Blanks Amherst, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Hockey team shutout visiting Amherst College, 3-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the NESCAC, while the Mammoths own a 3-3 record with a 1-2 mark in conference.

With 10:14 to play in the first period, the Bantams capitalized on a power play as senior Ned Blanchard played the puck to first year Connor Sedlak, who skated past the front of the Mammoths goal and dropped a pass back to senior John Campomenosi, who fired a shot past Amherst senior goalie Alex Wisco to hand Trinity a 1-0 lead.

Following a scoreless second period, the Bantams added an insurance with 4:57 to play as junior Nicholas Siffringer pursued a puck behind the goal line and play the puck back to the post, where senior Jake Smith knocked a shot past Wisco, putting the Bantams ahead 2-0. With less than two minutes to play, Richard Boysen won a faceoff in the Bantams end, where senior Gerard Marretta grabbed the loose puck and made a break towards an empty Amherst net. Marretta was taken down before he could get a shot off, but was awarded the goal due to an Amherst penalty on the play, sending Trinity to the 3-0 victory.

The Bantams owned the shot column, 36-16, while Amherst edged Trinity in the faceoff circle, 36-32. Bantams sophomore goalie Devon Bobak posted his first shutout of the season, stopping all 16 shots he faced, while Wisco made 33 saves for Amherst.

Trinity will look to remain in the win column when they host Albertus Magnus College in non-conference action Tuesday night. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
