Women's Hockey Shuts Out Western New England, 5-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Hockey team cruised past visiting Western New England University, 5-0, in a non-conference game at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Friday night. The Bantams rise to 4-3-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears dropped to 5-3-2 overall.

The Bantams struck first as junior Annika Dyczkowski ripped a shot from the point that hit the post and dropped down in the crease, where junior Paige Kehoe tucked the loose puck past Golden Bears goaltender Kayla Ireland to give Trinity the 1-0 lead.

Less than four minutes into the second period, senior Jenny Guider stole a puck near center ice and fed a pass to junior Martina Exnerova, who quickly moved the puck to Kehoe, who brought it along the boards and then played the puck back to Guider in front of the net. Guider wristed a shot over the shoulder of Irelend to extend the Bantams lead to 2-0 with 16:04 on the clock.

With 4:50 remaining in the second period, senior Anne Levia fired a shot into a crowd in front of the net, where the puck ricchoted of a body and landed at the feet of Exnerova, who chipped a bouncing puck over the head of Ireland to put the Bantams on top 3-0.

In the opening second of the third period, first year Marta Mazzocchi worked the puck away from the boards, where sophomore Emma Robertson played a quick pass to classmate Lillian Cassidy on the wing for the one-time goal, making it a 4-0 game. Mazzocchi potted an unassisted goal with 17:44 remaining in the third period to send the Bantams to the 5-0 victory.

The Bantams outshot the Golden Bears, 37-10, and won the battle in the faceoff circle, 27-18, during the game. Trinity senior Hannah Leclair posted her third shutout of the season with 10 saves, while Ireland made a game-high 32 saves for Western New England.

The Bantams will be back on the ice following the holiday break with a non-conference road trip to Norwich University January 2nd. Puck drop at 6:00 p.m.
