NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Trinity College Women's Hockey team defeated host Norwich University, 2-0, in a non-conference game at Kreitzberg Arena Tuesday evening. With the win, the Bantams improved to 5-3-1 overall, while the Cadets hold an 8-3-1 mark.
Following a scoreless first period, the Bantams broke through with 11:09 remaining in the second period as first year Kate French swiped a puck from a defender in the Norwich zone. French dished the puck to sophomore Lillian Cassidy behind the net, who found classmate Ava Gosnell on a break to the front of the net for the finish, giving Trinity a 1-0 lead.
With less than a minute to play in the second period, first year Marta Mazzocchi fired a shot on net, which was denied by Norwich senior goalie Leocadia Clark, but senior Anne Levia found the rebound a knocked the loose puck past Clark to make it a 2-0 game.
Trinity senior goaltender Hannah Leclair preserved the shutout with nine saves in the third period, including chances on the Cadets lone power play of the game, to secure the 2-0 victory.
The Cadets edged the Bantams in the shot column, 21-18, while Trinity controlled the faceoff battle, 34-54, during the game. Leclair recorded her third shutout of the season with a game-high 21 saves, while Clark made 17 saves for Norwich.
The Bantams will look to remain in the win column when they return home to host Amherst in New England Small College Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. Puck drops Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
