HARTFORD, Conn. – The 14th-ranked Trinity College Men's Hockey team battled visiting Hobart College, to a 2-1 loss in a non-conference clash at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday evening. The Bantams move to 7-2 on the year, while the Statemen sit at 10-2 overall.
After a scoreless first period, the Statesmen delivered the first strike as senior Jonah Alexander put a shot on net, which Trinity sophomore goaltender Devon Bobak stopped, but the rebound slipped out to the stick of junior Shane Shell, who chipped a shot over the head of Bobak to give Hobart a 1-0 lead.
The Bantams found the equalizer less than two minutes later as junior Teddy Griffin worked the puck to senior Kyle Tomaso, who found classmate Ned Blanchard open at the point. Blanchard wristed a shot through net-front traffic and past Hobart sophomore goalie Damon Beaver to even the score at 1-1 with 17:10 remaining in the second period. The score stayed tied at 1-1 entering the third period.
With 8:58 on the clock, the Statesmen found the game-winning goal as sophomore Tristan Fasig grabbed a loose puck just outside the Bantams zone, skated towards the net and dropped a pass for Shell, who played a quick pass to Alexander at the far post, where he tucked a shot past Bobak to put the Statesmen up 2-1. With 3:23 left to play, the Bantams had an opportunity to even the score as a puck snaked through traffic to the stick of Jax Murray, who had a wide-open net to shoot at, but Beaver made a tremendous post-to-post save to preserve the 2-1 score.
Trinity edged Hobart in shots, 36-31, while the Statesmen won the face-off battle, 33-30. Bobak made 29 saves for the Bantams, while Beaver made a game-high 33 saves for Hobart.
The Bantams return to the ice following the holiday break when they host King's College at the Koeppel Center on January 2nd. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
