HARTFORD, Conn. – The #15 Trinity College Men's Hockey team used a three-goal third period to propel past visiting King's College, 6-0, in a non-conference game at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Tuesday night. The Bantams rise to an 8-2 mark on the season, while the Monarchs dropped to 4-8 overall.
After more than 15 minutes of scoreless play, the Bantams cracked the scoreboard as first year Connor Sedlak stole a puck in the Monarchs zone and played the puck to senior John Campomenosi on the wing. Campomenosi delivered a pass to the front of the net, where classmate Casey Rhodes ripped a one-timer past King's junior goaltender Matt Bidini to give Trinity the 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
At the 10:29 mark of the second period, the Bantams capitalized on a power play as Campomenosi passed the puck to sophomore Spencer Korona near the goal line. Korona flicked a shot on net that trickled through the legs of Bidini and senior Gerard Marretta tapped the puck into the open net, handing Trinity the 2-0 lead. With less than two minutes left in the period, junior Nicholas Siffringer fired a shot on net, which Bidini saved but was unable to secure the loose puck, allowing junior Alexander Mozian to swoop in and tuck a shot to the back of the goal, extending the lead to 3-0.
The Bantams secured the victory with three goals over the final four minutes of the third period. Korona and junior Eamon Doheny potted power-play goals, followed by a tally from first year James Barbour with less than a minute to play, sending Trinity to the 6-0 victory.
The Bantams dominated the shot column, 44-10, while the Monarchs edged Trinity, 32-31, in the faceoff circle. Bantams sophomore goalie Devon Bobak posted his third shutout of the season with 10 saves, while Bidini registered a game-high 38 saves in the loss.
The Bantams will return to the rink when they host Amherst College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at the Koeppel Center Friday night. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
