MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — A pair of goals by
Jelani Adorno (Tarriffville, Conn.) sealed the 3-1 triumph for the Trinity College women's Ice hockey team at nearby Wesleyan University on Friday. The Bantams sit as the sixth seed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference with an overall record of 11-10-1 and 5-9-1 in the league, while the Cardinals dropped to 9-13-1 and 3-12-0. Trinity hosts its Senior Day in the final regular season matchup against Wesleyan on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
After a scoreless opening period, Adorno put the Navy & Gold on the board and capitalized off the shorthanded home team.
Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stockholm, Sweden) received the puck from
Jenny Guider (Ridgefield, Conn.) to set up the rookie's goal from deep center ice, a few skates away from the neutral zone. Eight minutes later,
Emma Robertson padded the Trinity lead after a scuffle in front of the net. Robertson fought through a congested ice after
Ava Gosnell (Breckenridge, Colo.) and
Stephanie Nevers (West Suffield, Conn.) set up the shot for the 2-0 lead.
Less than two and a half minutes into the third period, Adorno scored again off a powerplay with help from
Paige Kehoe (Manasquan, N.J.) to take a strong 3-0 lead before Caroline Mezias connected for the lone Wesleyan goal to end the shutout. Before the Cardinal goal,
Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) put a glove on 18 pucks and denied the home team to narrow the deficit more with seven more saves. Trinity blocked nine shots with two off the stick of
Erin DeMarco (Westford, Mass.). Wesleyan outshot the Bantams 26-24 but couldn't capitalize against the Trinity stronghold.
