HARTFORD, Conn. — A trio of goals netted in the opening stanza by
Lillian Cassidy (Aspen, Colo.),
Paige Kehoe (Manasquan, N.J.) and
Annika Dyczkowski (Milford, Mich.) secured the 5-1 triumph over the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals on Senior Day at home to wrap up the regular season on Saturday. The Bantams improved to 12-10-1 overall and 6-9-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference for the sixth seed, while the Cardinals edged in at eighth with a record of 9-14-1 and 3-13-0. Trinity heads to No. 3 Colby College on February 25 for the NESCAC Quarterfinals with a 4 p.m. puck drop.
In the first 2:45 of the opening period Cassidy connected for an unassisted goal followed by Kehoe's a minute later after
Martina Exnerova (Nelahozeves, Czechia) and
Jenny Guider (Ridgefield, Conn.) setup the play against a shaky Wesleyan defense. The visitors had seven chances to get on the board with seven shots on goal, but
Stephanie Garvis (Plymouth, Minn.) was in the box to put a glove on the five pucks, along with blocks by Cassidy and
Stephanie Nevers (West Suffield, Conn.) ith 9:06 remaining on the clock Dyczkowski notched her first goal of the night of the sticks of
Betsy Winslow and Guider. Garvis etched six more saves to close out the first period of play. Garvis totaled 24 saves in the box, while Rei Halloran stopped 33 Bantam pucks.
To take advantage of the shorthanded Cardinals in the second period, Dyczkowski fired her second goal of the night to put Trinity up, 4-0, with help from Cassidy and rookie
Annabelle Merkel (Chicago, Ill.). Two minutes into the final 15 minutes of play, Christina Tournas wiped the goose egg of the scoreboard for Wesleyan with a powerplay goal of the passes from Brigitte Goeler-Slough. For her third assist of the contest, Guider setup
Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stockholm, Sweden) to inflate Trinity's lead at 14:37 in the final period as the senior netted the final goal of the night despite being down a Bantam on the ice.
