No. 15 Williams Outshot Men's Basketball in Second Half of NESCAC Quarterfinals Loss, 62-47

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) netted 20 points in the Trinity College men's basketball team 62-47 loss at Williams College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Quarterfinals on Saturday. The Bantams concluded the 2022-23 season 16-9 overall and 4-6 in the league.

With 15:09 left in the first period, Callahan-Gold nailed a long three to set the score to 7-5 Williams, followed by another trio of baskets to gave the Bantams the lead. Williams' Brandon Roughly responded with a layup, however, Callahan-Gold nailed his third three of the game to take the lead back. Trinity pushed forward, going on a 12-4 lead in the next 3:52, topped off by Callahan-Gold's fourth three-point bucket on 4-4 shooting. After a pair of free throws for the Ephs' Cole Prowitt-Smith, the Bantams went on a 7-0 run, forcing Williams to call a full timeout.

After the timeout, Williams regained their composure, scoring the next three points and drawing a charge. There was a scoreless period for the next 4:28, with neither team unable to make anything happen. Evan Glatzer broke the drought for Williams at the end of the half, scoring three more but the Navy & Gold lead, 30-21, at the half. Callahan-Gold led scorers for the Bantams with 18 points on 75% shooting, and went 4-6 from behind the arc. Nate Karren led for the Ephs in points and rebounding with 9 and 5 by the end of the half. Trinity outshot the Ephs (43%-35%) and picked up 18 rebounds to the Ephs 16.

Williams scored four to start out the second half, to which Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) responded with a three. For the next twelve and a half minutes, Williams went on a 29-4 run, broken up by a pair of layups from the Bantams' first-year Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.).

First-year Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) led the charge for the final five minutes of play as he broke the Trinity scoring drought with two made free throws, which he followed up with a long three. Callahan-Gold stepped back into the game with a turnaround jumper to get his 20th point. Vetter had two more points from the free throw line and Okorougo scored the Bantams' last point of the game after he was fouled on his drive. In the last four and a half minutes of play, Trinity outscored Williams 10-8.

Callahan-Gold had a 20-4 night, Vetter posted 9 points and a pair of assists and Dorion had five points and five boards. On the Ephs' side, Karren led with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Roughley had 10.
