HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College men's ice hockey team drops tough 2-1 overtime loss with Bowdoin College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Quarterfinals at Koeppel Community Sports Center on Saturday. The Bantams finished the season with 16-8-1, while the Polar Bears moved to the Semifinals with a 13-9-3 record.Â
With 19 shots by the Bantams and seven oppositional shots on goal, the first period went scoreless until a scuffle in the second stanza near the Polar Bears' net brought goalie Alex Kozic down on the ice, which allowed
Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) to net the first goal of the game from the left side of the ice.
Ned Blanchard (West Hartford, Conn.) intercepted a pass after Bowdoin tried to send the puck away before sending it back to Prattson.
In the third period, Jesse Lycan stole the rock off a bad Trinity pass to break away from the pack before launching it to Gabe Shipper posted behind the blueline for a quick game-tying goal. Nine minutes prior to the visitors goal, Nicholas Siffringer (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) had a close shot for a potential game-winning goal that ricocheted off the Polar Bears' pipe.
Bowdoin came close to scoring a second goal in the third period after a free-for-all in front of the Bantams' cage that led Devon Bobak (Northwood, Ohio) to fall to the ice and laying across the length of the net, however, the referees whistled the play dead as the goal unset with less than two minutes left in regulation.
In a 20-minute overtime, Cam Berube recovers Trinity pass before sending it to Chris Brown for a swift goal that narrowly breezes passed Bobak in the upper left corner of the net with 4:21 remaining in the extra time. Bobak saved 30 Polar Bear pucks, while Kozic denied 46 shots off Bantam sticks.
