Trinity Women's Basketball Wins Over Williams To Reach First-Ever NESCAC Finals

MEDFORD, Mass. - Sophomore guard Hannah Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored 15 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 60-42 win over the Williams College Ephs in the semifinal round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament this afternoon at Tufts University's Cousens Gymnasium.  Trinity, ranked No. 16 in the nation and seeded No. 3 in the NESCAC Tournament, improves to 22-4 and advances to the conference finals for the first time in program history.  The 22 wins ties the program record for most in a season.  Williams drops to 18-7.  The Bantams will face top-seeded Tufts tomorrow in the finals at noon with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Trinity led the entire opening quarter, beginning with the first two two baskets of the game by Marzo that helped vault the Bantams to a 6-0 lead.  Mia Holtze gave Williams its only lead of the game one minute into the second quarter on a three-pointer to make it 18-16.  Juniors Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) and Emma Wax (Piner Brook, N.J.) scored the game's next two baskets to give the lead back to the Bantams and Trinity used a 12-0 run to close the first half and take a 37-25 lead into intermission.  Sophomore guard Indi DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) had five points during the Trinity run.

Trinity stayed in control in the third quarter, leading by as many as 23 points at 51-28 on two DelRocco free throws with 1:38 on the clock. The Bantam lead ballooned to 28 points at 58-30 after a trey by sophomore guard Theresa Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.) with 6:55 remaining in the fourth frame until the Ephs scored the last 12 points of the game.  Campbell and Twardosky joined Marzo in double fighures in scoring for Trinity with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Campbell added 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and four steals.  Wax contributed six points, seven boards, and five assists, and DelRocco scored nine points off the Trinity bench.  Trinity held Williams to 27.3 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded the Ephs, 44-36.  Maddy Mandyck had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Williams.
