Softball Drops a Pair to Open Season

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Trinity College softball team drops two games against Loras College (7-4) and Ohio Wesleyan University (8-4) at Legends Way Complex on Saturday. The Bantams moved to 0-2, while Loras and Ohio Wesleyan improved to 9-4 and 3-6, respectively. Trinity continues its Florida road trip on Sunday with contests against Luther College and Manchester University at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In game one with Loras, junior Tiffany Stowers (Birke, Va.) opened the first inning with a strikeout and posted two scoreless innings until Abby Jones put the Duhawks on the board in the third inning after a single put Jones on the bags. Loras recorded two more runs in the third, while Trinity closed the gap by two with runs from the top of the order. Taylor Mikolajczak (Johns Creek, Ga.) scored to put Trinity up after a single, followed by a run by Abigail Alper (Weston, Fla.). Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) was in scoring position on third base for the potential game-tying run, but Rachel Peat managed to get out of trouble for the Duhawks.

Duhawks padded their lead with a run in the fourth inning but the Navy & Gold scored a pair of runs in the sixth innings as pinch hitter Allyson Hourigan (Schwenksville, Pa.) and Erin Steed (Orland Park, Ill.) crossed the plate.

Mikolajczak led off game two with a walk and eventually found home to put Trinity up early in the first inning against Ohio Wesleyan followed by a trio of runs scored by the Battling Bishops. Avery Panozzo crossed the plate twice for Ohio Wesleyan as the leadoff batter in the first two innings. Tito and Stowers brought the deficit within one with runs in back-to-back plays in the third inning, followed by the game-tying run by Stowers in the fifth. The Battling Bishops notched three more runs across the fifth and sixth innings.
