Trinity Softball Loses Against Luther And Manchester

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Trinity College Bantams dropped a 6-3 decision against the Luther College Norse and a 9-7 game against the Manchester University Spartans in The Spring Games softball action at the DiamondPlex Complex this afternoon.  Trinity drops to 0-4 with games against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and SUNY-Old Westbury on Tuesday.  Trinity sophomore SS Taylor Mikolajczak (Johns Creek, Ga.) was 5-for-9 at the plate in the two games.

Against Luther, junior Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) hit an RBI and sophomore Erin Steed (Orland Park, Chi.) added a run-scoring single to highlight a three-run first inning for the Bantams.  Luther answered with five runs in the second inning, however, and Trinity did not score a run the rest of the way.  Stowers was solid pitching in relief, allowing four hits and a run with a strikeout and a walk over five innings.  Mikolajczak was 3-for-4 with a run and Stowers was 2-for-4 offensively.

Trinity jumped ahead in the first inning versus Manchester as well, countering the Spartans' two runs in the top of the first.  Mikolajczak led off with a single, stole second and came around to score on a squeeze bunt by classmate Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.).  Stowers plated first-year Abigail Alper (Weston, Fla.) on a sacrifice fly and Tito also came around to score on the play.  Manchester scored four times in the second frame, but Trinity responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning.  Tito belted a two-run triple and scored on an error in the second.

The Spartans scored three unearned runs in the third inning to take a 7-6 lead.  In the fourth inning, Title doubled and eventually scored on a ground ball by junior 1B Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.) t tie it at 7-7, but Manchester scored twice more, unearned, in the top of the fifth to take the lead back.  Trinity threatened in the seventh inning with singles by Rogers and Steed, but Manchester's Kaitlyn Carr completed her complete game on a strikeout and a pop-up.  Tito was stellar offensively, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, while Mikolajczak and Rogers were both 2-for-4.  Bantam junior RHP Erin Girard (Bristol, Conn.), who took the loss in both games, yielded six hits and one earned run with 3K's in four innings of relief in the Manchester game.
