HARTFORD, Conn. — In the second game of the season, the Trinity College women's lacrosse team blows past nearby Western Connecticut State University, 19-4, on Robin L. Sheppard Field to hand the Wolves their first loss on Monday thanks to hat tricks by
Molly McGuckin (Darien, Conn.) and
Caroline Lampert (Wayland, Mass.). Trinity remains perfect on the year with a 2-0 record, while Western dropped to 2-1. The Bantams head to bates College on Saturday for a noon matchup.
Twenty seconds into the opening quarter,
Elle Fair (Westport, Conn.) netted the first goal of the night off the short pass from
Brooke Kurtz (Alexandria, Va.) followed by a trio of Bantam goals by
Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.), Lampert and McGuckin to open the first seven minutes of play; Ives and McGuckin took advantage of the shorthanded Wolves to put Trinity up, 4-0. Dominique DeMarsico put WestConn on the board with a player up goal with 2:36 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Navy & Gold notched seven more goals before Alexa Riggio scored off the throw from DeMarsico with 45 seconds left in the half as the home team led, 11-2. Ives, Fair,
Grace Denious (Wilton, Conn.), and
Lexi Swartz (North Andover, Mass.) each netted a pair for the Bantams.
