Trinity Baseball Beaten Late By Tufts

HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity College pitchers allowed just seven hits and three earned runs but it was not enough, as the Bantams surrendered three runs in the eighth inning and lost, 4-2, against the visiting Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon on Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium.  Trinity falls to 17-9 overall and 6-4 in the NESCAC East while the Jumbos improve to 20-6 overall and stay perfect in the division at 7-0.  The teams will complete the three-game series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader in Hartford.  Junior C Yoshi Omi-Jarrett (Mill Valley, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs for the Trinity offense.

Trinity rookie starter Kody Perry (Greenbrae, Calif.) did not allow a hit through the first two innings, but the Jumbos scored the game's first run in the third on a single by Ozzie Fleischer who stole second and scored on a hit by Jesse McCullough.   Trinity had a runner in scoring position in each of the first three innings but went down in order in the fourth and fifth frames before taking a 2-1 lead in the sixth.  Junior 1B Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y,) drew a leadoff walk, while classmate Jack Ryan (Bethesda, Md.) and first-year Dylan Schnitzer (Huntington, N.Y.) followed with singles to load the bases.  Tufts starter Connor Kinney struck the next two batters out, but Omi-Jarrett delivered a two-run single.

The score stayed at 2-1 until the eighth stanza when Tufts scored three times, including one unearned run and two on a two-out, two-run single by Ben Leonard.  Jumbo reliever Aidan Tucker retired the final six Bantams in order with three K's to improve to 3-0.  Bantam reliever Ian Brown (Tampa, Fla.) took the loss and fell to 2-1.  Perry was solid through six innings, allowing four hits and a run with one walk and five strikeouts, while junior righty Sam Craven (Wakefield, R.I.) worked a perfect top of the ninth to keep the Bantams close.  Meth singled and doubled and senior co-captain 2B Patrick Dillon (Bronx, N.Y) had two hits and stole a base for the Bantams.  McCullough and Jimmy Evans had two hits apiece for Tufts.
