Sean Meth (Port Washington, N.Y.) ignited the explosive win, 13-1, for the Trinity College baseball team in the first inning over Union College on the Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium on Wednesday. The Bantams improved to 18-11 overall, while Union fell to 13-18. Trinity travels to Wheaton College (Mass.) on Thursday for a rescheduled matchup with 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
In the number two hole, Meth doubled to right center to bring home
Brandon Chow (Greenwich, Conn.) after a walk, before
Tyler Bernstein's (Ponte Verde, Fla.) single brought home the junior on the next at bat for the eventual game-winning run in the first. The Navy & Gold padded the lead by two as Bernstein crossed home off a sacrifice fly to centerfield by
Patrick Dillon (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Jack Ryan scored off a single to first base by
Andrew Tuozzolo (Pittstown, N.J.).
The visitors scored their lone run in the top of the second off an error by third base. Trinity padded the lead with nine more runs across second, third, fifth and sixth frames.
Tyler Griffin (Milford, Conn.) notched his second win on the mound this season and had 1-2-3 innings in the first and fifth stanzas in six innings of work. Meth hit 4-for-5 with two runs scores, a trio of RBIs and a walk, while
Dylan Schnitzer (Huntington, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with three runs and brought pair of Bantams home. As designated hitter, Tuozzolo hit 2-for-2 with three runs, an RBI and a walk. The Navy & Gold outhit Union 15-8 and both teams committed two errors on the day.
