Trinity Men's Lacrosse Opens NESCAC Tournament Play At Williams

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team, which finished the 2023 season with an 8-7 overall record and its best mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) since 2011 at 5-5, will visit the Williams College Ephs in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m.  The Bantams, coached by Jason Tarnow (6th Season), will be making their ninth overall appearance in the NESCAC Tournament  and are the No. 6 seed. 

Trinity went 3-0 in the conference from April 12 to 22, including one-point, road victories at Wesleyan and Hamilton ans had a chance to finish tied for third in the league heading into its final game against Amherst on Wednesday.  A 16-10 loss to the Mammoths, a game that was tied, 5-5, at halftime, slid the Bantams down to sixth and slotted them against the No. 3-seeded Ephs on Saturday.  Williams finished the year 9-6 overall and 6-4 in the league, including a 16-6 victory over Trinity in both teams' season opener on March 4. The Ephs and the Bantams have never played each other in the NESCAC Tournament.

The winner of the NESCAC Championship Tournament will determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Top-seeded Tufts (15-0, 10-0) hosts No. 8-seeded Connecticut College (6-7, 4-6), No. 2-seeded Middlebury (14-1, 9-1) hosts No. 7-seeded Hamilton (7-7, 4-6) and No. 4-seeded Amherst (10-4, 6-4) hosts No. 5-seeded Bowdoin (11-4, 6-4) in the other quarterfinal games Saturday.  Saturday's quarterfinal winners will play in the NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday, May 6 at the site if the highest remaining seed, and the finals will be Sunday, May 7 at the same location.  The Bantams are seeking their third trip to the NESCAC Final Four. 

Trinity senior tri-captain attacker Harrison Ike (Allentown, Pa.) leads Trinity in scoring with 42 goals and 15 assists for 57 points, while sophomore Ryan Werner (Weston, Conn.) adds 21 goals and a team-high 23 assists for 44 points.  The Bantams boast five players with 20 goals or more, including sophomore Jon Krikorian (Windham, N.H.), junior Andrew Bailey (Madison, N.J.), and first-year Ethan Cobb (Matthews, N.C.).  Senior tri-captain David DeMartino (South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore LSM John Cowdrick (Lexington, Mass.), who boasts 67 ground balls and a team-high 30 caused turnovers anchor the Bantam defense in front of solid junior goalkeeper Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) who has 199 saves for a .520 save percentage.
