HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College women's lacrosse team, which finished the regular season with an 11-4 overall record and in fifth place in the league standings with a 6-4 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), will face the No. 4-seeded Colby College Mules for the second time in eight days in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 29 at noon. The NESCAC Semifinals will take place on Saturday, May 6 at the site of the highest remaining seed, and the finals will be on Sunday, May 7 at the same site. The five-time league champion Bantams, coached by Katy Szymanski (9th Season), will be making their 17th overall appearance in the NESCAC Championship Tournament. Colby is 11-4 overall and -3 in the conference.
Trinity suffered a narrow 12-11 loss to the Mules in Waterville on April 22 but rallied to down Amherst on the road, 14-10, on Wednesday tio secure the No. 5 seed. Trinity boasts a potent offense that features first-year phenon Molly McGuckin (Darien, Conn.), a 50-goal scorer in her first season who notched three goals and two assists in the Amherst game, and senior attacker Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) who has 42 goals and 12 assists this spring. Junior midfielder Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.) adds 25 goals and 12 assists, while junior attacker Caroline Lampert (Wayland, Mass.) has 27 goals and five assists, and sophomore attacker Brooke Kurtz (Alexandria, Va.) has eight goals and a team-high 20 assists. Ward is a fantastic all-around player with 34 draw controls, 21 ground balls, and 18 caused turnovers and junior midfielder Caitlyn Buermann (West Caldwell, N.J.) has a team-high 48 draw controls. Junior Quincy Connell () highlights the defense with a team-highs of 24 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers, while senior Alyssa Vitale (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and first-year Ali Macdougal (Southbury, Mass.) have combined for 100 saves and a 9.87 GAA.
The winner of the NESCAC Championship Tournament will determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Top-seeded Middlebury (15-0, 10-0) hosts No. 8-seeded Bowdoin (6-9, 3-7), No. 2-seeded Wesleyan (13-2, 8-2) hosts No. 7-seeded Williams (10-5, 5-5) and No. 3-seeded Tufts (12-3, 8-2) hosts No. 6-seeded Amherst (9-5, 5-5) in the other quarterfinal games Saturday. The Bantams are seeking their ninth trip to the NESCAC Finals and won the league title every year from 2011 to 2015. All eight NESCAC Tournament participants are ranked among the top 25 teams in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Division III National Poll. The Bantams are ranked No. 13 nationally, while Middlebury is No. 1, Wesleyan is No. 5, Tufts is No. 7, Colby is No. 12, Amherst is No. 14, Williams is No. 16, and Bowdoin is No. 24.
