Kennedy Rogers (Phillips Ranch, Calif.) opened the onslaught of runs for the Trinity College softball team in the first inning with a double to centerfield to bring
Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) home in game one and singled in game two for the second run in the opening frame as Tito crossed the plate for the eventual game-winner in the doubleheader sweep at Mitchell College on Wednesday. The Bantams shutout the Mariners 11-0 and continued its steam for an 9-1 triumph in the second game as both ended in a mercy-rule win. Trinity moved to 7-7 overall, while Mitchell dropped to 10-10.
After Rogers brought Tito home in the two-hole, the junior scored after
Lizzie Nelson (Rockville, Md.) walked with the bags loaded full of Bantams to put the team up, 2-0. In the second inning, Rogers doubled in her second at bat to left field and advanced to third of a throwing error by shortstop as
Taylor Mikolajczak (Johns Creek, Ga.). The Navy & Gold notched six more runs across the third and fifth innings capped off by a two-run bomb out of centerfield by Rogers to bring home Tito to put the visitors up, 11-0.
Abigail Alper (Weston, Fla.), Nelson and
Annika Haley (Marbelhead, Mass.) also each crossed the plate once, while
Alyssa Gazivoda (Poughquag N.Y.) scored a pair.
Tito reached first off an error by second base in the first inning to allow Mikolajczak to come home, followed by a single off the bat of Rogers to bring Tito home for the eventual game-winner. Trinity earned six more runs across the third and fourth innings as
Erin Steed (Orland Park, Ill.),
Hannah Mullaney (Hebron, Conn.), Tito, Nelson and Alper touched home once and Rogers plated two. Katelyn Lipsky singled to bring home Jenna Bennett for the home team's lone run across the two games.
Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) recorded back-to-back wins on the bump for the Bantams with four strikeouts, no runs on seven hits.
