Trinity Softball Drops Pair At Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams were swept by the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) softball doubleheader this afternoon on Pickard Field.  Trinity drops to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin improves to 14-12 overall and 7-5 in the league.  Trinity hits the road for another NESCAC twinbill on Saturday, April 15 at Amherst College.  Sophomore SS Taylor Mokolajczak (Johns Creek, Ga.) went 3-for-7 with two runs, a double, and a stolen base across both games for the Bantams.

Mikolajczak led off the game with a double and junior 2B Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) followed with a bunt single.  Trinity junior 1B Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.) drove Mikolajczak home with a sacrifice fly.  Bowdoin scored four times in the bottom of the first, however, including one run on an RBI double by Katryna Dukehart.  In the third inning, Tito singled and scored on a Rogers double but the Bantams were held scoreless the rest of the way by Bowdoin's Anna Halliday who went the distance. Bowdoin scored twice more in the third and four times in the fifth to end the game after five innings.

Trinity broke a scoreless tie in the third inning of game two when Mikolajczak singled and scored on a Polar Bear error. Trinity junior starter Erin Girard (Bristol, Conn.) did not allow a Bowdoin hit until the third and held them scoreless through four frames. The Polar Bears took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, scoring the go-ahead run unearned.  Bantam junior Hannah Mullaney (Hebron, Conn.) and Tito singled in the seventh frame but the game ended with two runners on base, as Polar Bear pitcher Maddie Current went the distance.  Girard allowed four hits and fanned two with one walk in five innings and classmate Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) worked a scoreless sixth.
