HARTFORD, Conn. — After a tough a 10-2 mercy-rule loss in game one the doubleheader,
Erin Girard (Bristol, Conn.) held top-seeded New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent Tufts University to four runs on nine hits and struck out a pair of Jumbos at home on Wednesday. The Bantams moved 9-19 on the season and 4-10 in the league, while Tufts improved to 33-3 and 15-1. Trinity hosts Bates College on May 6 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
The visitors racked up eight runs across the first, second and fourth innings of the opening game before

Abigail Alper's (Weston, Fla.)Â well-placed bunt loaded the bags. Tufts padded the lead with two more runs in the sixth inning to claim the mercy-rule win. The Jumbos outhit Trinity 12-5, with three walks and left eight on base as the home team stranded four.

Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) singled through the right side to allow Tito cross home for the second time across the two games. The visiting team closed out the seventh inning with its final run of the day and outslugged the Bantams 9-4, leaving four on the bags while Trinity deserted five.
